Happy Birthday Lovely!
If your Birthday is one that has passed or coming up I’d like to say: Happy Birthday!!! I am excited you’re here! This post is probably one of my favorites, and one I’ve been excited to write for a very long time. I want to inspire every woman to create true meaning and excitement on their birthdays even as adults just as I have.
I’ll start by saying that there was a time when Birthdays seemed magical and Barbie dolls where everything. But, somewhere past my 25th birthday it started to feel like any other day. Maybe for some that feeling comes sooner or later, but it eventually comes. Either way I know you can relate.
Honestly, things change, we get older, whatever the circumstance may be, it will not always feel so meaningful. But, it truly is all up to us to make sure we make it as spectacular as it should be.
So, a few years ago I came across a post on the internet encouraging others to make their birthdays meaningful and I was truly inspired by this concept. I began my birthday morning ritual 4 years ago and it’s become a much anticipated yearly tradition for me.
Cue the Autumn curls and Momosas for one!
How It Began
My husband and I have been married for 17 years this year, together for 18 and he’s always been the best of making sure every year, is amazing.
But honestly, 17 years is a long time and I’d be lying if I said every one of those years has been a complete and well thought out fairytale. Some years before owning his own business he worked all day long and he didn’t always get the day off, so dinner and celebrations commenced only when he returned from work. This means I spent half the day anticipating his return and most likely doing things like I did any other day!
That’s not to say that everyday is not a gift, it definitely is. However, birthdays are special milestones. They’re e a chance to reflect on the year that has passed, a chance to seek vision for the year ahead and a day just for you to truly celebrate the gift and blessing of another year. For this reason I jumped on the self designing of my birthday and it has been something I look forward to every year!
I believe birthdays set the tone for another year in the same way that New Years does and should absolutely be celebrated and honored even if it is a party of 1. If you’d like to explore this concept, I have compiled a list of ideas that you can implement on your to honor and celebrate the milestone blessing that it is.
10 Ways To Make Your Birthday More Meaningful
1. Rise Early and Take a Walk
Take time to breath, spend time alone meditate or pray. It’s the perfect time for a reflection and gratitude.
2. Style Your Hair First Thing
As a work from home mom, this is something I don’t get to do everyday. Therefore on my birthday morning, it’s an absolute must!
3. Make Your Favorite Breakfast
I know what your thinking: Who actually wants to spend their birthday morning in the kitchen! Lol It’s honestly the best feeling sitting alone sans the hustle and bustle of the outside world having a mimosa, latte, or your favorite cup of coffee with great music maybe (quiet is good too) playing in the background. It feels incredible!
4. Journal
Write your goals for the year ahead while burning your favorite candle.
5. Splurge On One Thing
I like to splurge on one thing I’ve been saying no to all year.
6. Call Your Mother Or Send Her Flowers
After all, you’re here because of her. If she’s no longer with us do something special for yourself in her memory.
7. Create A Bucket List For The Year Ahead
Some things on my bucket list are to visit a museum alone, and grow my network. All alone with no one joined at my hip for security. (forcing myself to grow)
8. Try Something New
Explore an art Museum, try a new food/recipe, or read a new book. It’s all up to you and ideas are endless!
9. Pick One Word For The Year Ahead
It can be anything you want to work on change, improve or explore. Focus on that word for the rest of the year.
10. Follow Through
Every year is a chance to reinvent yourself and let go of everything not working for you. Set your goals and follow through.
Your Birthday is special and it should be celebrated in the same fashion a nation honors its birthday. Whether it’s a journal and candle, or a museum for you; whatever you decide to do, my hope is that this will inspire you to welcome another year with excitement, complete and total gratitude and optimism for the year ahead.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these ideas as much as I enjoyed writing them. Feel free to share this post with anyone who could use the reminder that birthdays can still be meaningful even if it is a party of one.

Meg, I loved this. So much! I’m inspired. I like so many women have waited for that perfect party from family, husband, friends, and when it never came would be heartbroken. I love this concept of well being while lifting ourselves up in celebration of our owl lives! I’m game!
Patricia, I’m happy to know you are inspired by this post! I think the word Birthday has a connotation of surprises, wrapped gifts and cake; and because these are mainly things we would not normally give ourselves (although the cake is debatable) lol our minds believe it’s a day other people need to be in charge of. But, in challenging that thought it has become one of the days I most look forward to every year. I’m excited to know that you will make yours a spectacular one all by your design.
